What's Hot? Candela's CD! Madre Rumba, Padre Son
(Mother Rumba, Father Son)
Edgardo Cambón, bandleader of Candela and a major
figure in the Bay Area Salsa scene, celebrates the
release of his first North American debut CD. It is a
continuation of Candela's commitment to make you dance
while the band has a good time! They are proud of this
musical effort as it accurately represents how they
sound in their live shows.
Candela's "line-up of young and veteran talent" (LatinBeat
Magazine) include Bob Karty, piano; Jeff
Cressman, Marty Wehner and John Gove, trombones; Edgardo
Cambón, vocals & congas; Eric Rangel, bongo drums &
background vocals; David Belove, bass, Julio Areas,
timbales & background vocals and Sandy Cressman, vocals.
The 12 tracks on the CD demonstrates Edgardo's
versatility as a poetic lyricist, composer,
percussionist and sonero (singer, improviser). His
composing partner David Schecter collaborates on five of
the tunes. Schecter wrote awesome melodies for many of
Edgardo's engaging lyrics, including the recording's
title track Madre Rumba, Padre Son, and on the
ballad Pedirte Perdón (Asking Your Forgiveness).
John Calloway, Wayne Wallace and Mara Fox contribute to
the bands' arrangements. One of the tracks includes a
composition by René Baños, member of the renowned Cuban
a cappella ensemble "Vocal Sampling," with Baños and
Cambón collaborating on the lyrics. The last track is
John Lennon's "Imagine," arranged for the first time as
a salsa version by the bandleader, sung both in English
and Spanish.
The CD is produced by Edgardo Cambón, Laura Sefchovich
and
David Schecter on Pan Caliente Records.
